Our world famous major event of the summer namely the Children’s Convoy takes place this year on Sunday 24th August (Bank Holiday Sunday) 2008.
Departs County Hall at 10.00am.
Travel to A47 via Thorpe Green. On A47 at 10.30am.
Proceeds along A47 (Plenty of observation points on the bridges).
At 11.15 am turns right onto Breydon Bridge and arrives at Pleasurewood Hills at 12 noon.
Leaves P.H. at 5.15 and proceed to Gt. Yarmouth front at the power station end via the Haven Bridge passing the past the Marina Centre and on to the Britannia Pier (where the Exhibition Trailer will be stationed all day) at about 6.00pm.
Turning left at the Iron Duke the convoy rejoins the A47 and makes its way back to County Hall arriving about 7.30pm for the presentations and winding up ceremony.
Please note that all times, apart from the start time, must, by necessity, be approximate.
Thousands of people line the route from County Hall Norwich to the seafront at Gt. Yarmouth via Pleasurewood Hills. It makes the children’s day to see everyone waving them on from any vantage point en route. Logistically, the best place to be is somewhere near the Marina Centre in Yarmouth but, if you just want a good view get yourself onto a bridge on the A47. But, be early. Lots of people have the same idea.
But the Convoy is, by no means, the only thing that happens. Check the link to our newsletter and look up “Dates for your Diary”. This lists, mostly for the benefit of our Members (who generally have a short attention span), where they’re supposed to be and when.
Talking about Members we also have a division of “Friends”. This group, numbering in the hundreds, make an annual donation of a minimum of £10 and get our monthly newsletter. This is less than 20p per week. Good value by any standards. But they provided extra funds which we put to good use helping the children. Have a look at the “Support Us” link.
Finally, thanks for logging on. “Past events” gives you more background on what we get up to.
